Front turn signal lenses for 411 fit 412?

Post by MGVWfan »

Howdy! I'm back again! I've got a crunched LF turn/park signal lens on my '73 412 wagon, and was wondering if they changed the fronts between 411 and 412 so the older lenses won't fit on the later model. The lamp housing p/n starts with 411, so at least there's no specific wagon p/n (would be a 461 in that case). I have a set of lenses coming with a 411 p/n, they look the same...Ray:?:

Welcome back. Too bad on the lens. That will be tough to replace. Finding front 412 lenses seems harder than finding 411's. They are quite different. Top is 412, bottom is 411.

Yeah, I just got a set that looked right, but were too long. :( Oh well.

Albert, the left front turn signal lens on my '73 412 Variant measures 20cm ALONG THE CURVE at the top, and 19.5cm along the curve at the bottom. Top and bottom are curved. The front edge is 7.5cm, and so is the back edge. If you have a left front turn signal lens like that, new or used, please let me know, and merci beaucoup! :)

Anyone have the VW PN for the L and R front turn lenses for a '73 412? I have the 411 PN's, so maybe we can put together the list and post it in the sticky area.

Thanks for the picture Bill K...the one on top does look the same as my '73's front turn lenses. The one on the bottom is what I have in hand now. Anyone need some "long" front turn signal lenses?

Unfortunately Ray, there is no p/n on the lenses...there is a DOT number, TVM8, maybe that means something? BTW, I've had a great response to my feelers, I've got another lens coming in that is confirmed correct...I do appreciate your kind offer. :D If I hit another brick wall, I'll PM you for help.

not sure, i guess. isnt that the change from 411 to 412? the numbers are taken from a VW parts list book that covers both models...

I think CH# 410xxxxxxx is 1970...the 412's would be 412xxxxxxx (1972) at the earliest, assuming late 1972 production for 1973 412's, or more likely, CH# 413xxxxxxx. I don't remember if the CH#'s go by calendar year, or model year (starts in August)...hmmm! My August 1973 production 412 wagon CH# starts with 463, as an example.

oops...wrong book.

the Hollander Interchange manual shows:

411 953 142E (lens, RH, with flashing side marker) '73-'74 412
411 953 141E (lens, LH, with flashing side marker) '73-'74 412

theres also a listing for a lens without "flashing side marker" with a letter suffix of D

Sorry about the dredged thread, but here is the above mentioned "D" series lense for sale: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/ ... id=1220902

Notice the different "grid" pattern (naturally). Is this the same profile/contour as the ones in North America? I think there are some that are flatter/lower profile, but maybe those are all the clear Italian type? I can't recall now.
