Motorbreath53's Baja... is still ALIVE

Offroad VW based vehicles have problems/insights all their own. Not to mention the knowledge gained in VW durability.

I was looking for a way to pull off more side protection with this design... but I didn't come up with much of anything that looked right to me.... (Photoshop Guru's, have at it please!!! open to suggestions)

I'd like to do one more tube from the bend on the sides, back down towards the frame horns.... and i'd also like to plate in between all the tubes with some perferated steel to keep theiving tweeker a@#holes away from the motor, while still allowing airflow.... and not looking all Hillbilly......(especially once the ecotec is in there...)
..... but we'll see what I come up with....
I don't want it to look like a mess of unplanned tubes, ya know... Its gunna be slow for a bit longer, so it might as well look cool.

As for the lights, I havn't even wired them yet  so i'm pretty curious as to how well the stock replacement alternator that I scored will hold up too.... I am running a YellowTop Optima, so hopefully that will give me some time for fun even if the 55amp won't keep up.

Hopefully it doesn't keep up.. more reason for an Ecotec swap with a monster GM single wire alternator :D ... and before long, they will be HID converted Hella4000's... so they won't tax the system as bad anyway...
Im diggin' the bumper. Looks cool. Is the EcoTech gonna fit in there or is that temporary.....cuz if so.... (que the vultures!!)
The bumper will have to be lengthened when the motor is swapped, but only cause' everything will be moved back to accomidate the 6x6 monsters that will be swinging from the torsion housing from some big ol' sombitchin heim joints......... not to mention, i'm thinking that the stock frame horns will be in the scrap pile... so back to the drawing board....

It may get replaced somday, but long after we have built you one out of some 1.5, to match your cage...... Don't worry scooter. I'll take care of you after this night run...(godwilling, we may have to wait until after an upcoming Fire Acadamy  )

Alright. The Smurf is ready. I am officially ready to try getting this thing dirty.

Cage is fully welded and painted, all windows are back in, both bumpers are finished and painted(finished for now  )

Its not "done"... at all...... but its probably not going to change much from this for the next year.... its time to pull my 53' out of the mothballs...

Have you had any time to work on your car MB? Or just go to work?

other than swapping out a dead alternator, I haven't had much time at all for the bug...

... but its back up and running again, and i've been cruising it around on the street... just enjoying it for now. It is ready for another shot at the dirt after I swap out the cheesy fuse block.....

Life is good though... job is going well.

...BUT, the cool news, is that I am getting ready to start escrow on my first home. Modest little 3bdr, 2bth, "fixer-uper" of a place.... but 2 car garage that will be ALL MINE! Small backyard, but cool view, and plenty of room for my first hound. With a little effort, I've got room for the camper and trailer at my place... and the best part, the chance to spend "quality time" with my womern in EVERY ROOM...

...so cross your fingers that the bank doesn't give our offer a "middle finger response"... cause Motorbreath needs a new castle.

So this is how I find out? Through the STF grapevine, huh?

I'm just messin' around. Congrats bro, I'm sure the bank will be pleased to offer you an adjustable rate mortgage that's sure to stay below 5 percent! Just trust them!!

Let's have a baja bug GTG this week since you're off.

Naw, you'll do fine bro. Just plan on there being no desert trips this season and you'll be ok. School will be over before you know it and we'll be laughing about it down in Superstition.

STILL waiting on the lenders from the previous owners for the MOTORBREATH'S CASTLE idea... so we went off-roadin....

GREAT trip to Ocotillo...

Unfortunately, I was under the impression that I was driving a Class 1 car, and hit some pretty deep whoops a bit too hard...

The result?

Yup... it hurt a bit... But no biggie.. at least we didn't roll the car

So, as much as I hate to spend money on suspension that is not going to yeild 18-20inches of travel... I think i'm in the market for some Sway-Away Torsion Bars... You know of any?

Looks very similar to the body damage my 69 sustained when my wheel adaptor fell off...

What shocks are you running in the rear? Maybe some with more compression dampening will help?

And sorry, i dont know of any SAW torsions laying around...

i've got more sh!t in my garage...
