Offroad VW based vehicles have problems/insights all their own. Not to mention the knowledge gained in VW durability.

I bought this from a Native American on the Pala reservation a few miles south of Temecula Ca. He had it for several years and used it mostly
on the reservation with occasional trips to Ocotillo Wells.
I let it sit for about a year while I finished my other bug, but now
I've started an A-arm build meant mainly for the sand.

My plans are to make my own dual pivot rear suspension with some help
from a friend who knows solid works well. plans are to angle the torsion
replacment tube 7 deg per side and make the arms about 5x5 or 6x6
depending on axle length and cv angles..

Nice work dude! Looks real stout. I like the trans location technique.

That Native American was rollin' in style.

Looks like its going to be a lot of fun.

You found that on the rez?!! :shock: Wow, nice car. I like how the cage was done. Does it leave enough room for a back seat? Are you gonna put the pan back in or go tube chassis? Either way, nice find!

I won't be using the pan I sold it. I'm making it all unbolt from the cage
in sections, winshield clip, doors, quarter panels, and back wrap around peice.
A back seat would be nice and I thought about it but the cage really doesn't protect back there.

I'll tag off the front hoop with the 9 deg rails for the lower
a-arms. The cross piece is only temporary and will be moved
to the lower rail later.

Tako, Slackers? I think not. I'm lookin to you guys for help and advice.
I've got a bunch of parts on order I'll post pics when they come in.
Can't decide which shocks to use. What about the foa's are they any good?
How do ya preload those things?
I've questions about the different styles of a-arm setups too.
It seems the ones with the shorter upper arms have better
"scrub ratio" but they look kinda goofie to me. I don' think
scrub will matter that much in the sand. what do you guys think?
Do you think 3/4 heims are stout enough for the front spindles?
Come on throw a guy a bone. :)
