Franz, the thunder pumpkin! - SOLD

Offroad VW based vehicles have problems/insights all their own. Not to mention the knowledge gained in VW durability.

Originally an orange standard 1974 Beetle.

Hi, my friend fusername got me into this project. Someday I'd kill him for it, I owe him too much. Wait a sec...

Intial pics before I bought my car.

Attempted some ducttape repair that went rather well (forgot to clean the seat before hand) on the driver's seat. Will use Gorilla tape next time.

Image
Mmmmm....rust. Under back seat, driver's side

Image
Sorta what it'll look like in the end...

Hi, I'm going to start posting a lot more, fusername and I did a bit of bug planning. Yes, this is MY car. He's just done...most of the work...Gods I am in debt to this kid. LOVE HIM.

And me. Cause Franz is awesome and is going to be awesome and I will make him that way!

Pics of us actually at work...sorta...

Image
Oh my sad sad pedal cluster. Got one at the junkyard, glass beaded it, painted it, just needs reassembly now!

Image
Hmm...so one of these is fusername's. He has that 77 Westy. The top tire is his. The bottom is one of my back tires. Sadly, my car will not be able to handle them. Seriously, sad. I LOVE MY GIANT TIRES!

Image
Meet me. I am taking a time out.

Image
The sad engine I bought off some guy. Bad idea. Waste of $150. Hopefully getting a fuel injected off a guy on the samba, can use parts from that and have my own working engine...eventually. Like the mouse nests?

Image
After we cleaned it...a lot. Yay for paint thinner!

Image
Busted, nasty nasty head!

That's all for now. We are aiming for Christmas to get this baby on the road. I'll have pics of fusernames lovely repair work  in a week or two when I'm home (doing this project on weekends, when I'm home from school).

I'm not to sure I want anyone to see my 'repairs'. In my defence it looked worse when we started... well, kinda...

in my defence, the welder was stuck on high
give a man a watch and he'll allways know what time it is. give him two and he can never be sure again.

east coast, sadly thats the price of a core around here....

good thing was, it was a 1500, had a good carb on it, but thats about it. 1500 has the old style crank, and that earned us a free reground crank. If you take a look at the shot of the cylinder head, i think you can guess whether it was running or not. We have a lead on a possible set of FI heads, might use those with a dp intake, we shall see.

unless somone wants to donate a set of workable heads of course :D

Oh man I know! I get so stressed out by it, but like my dad, who is trying to fix up his '91 diesel jetta, it's sorta therapeutic. Maybe will make me more patient someday. Hahahah...yeah....right. I am somehow enjoying running myself broke every two weeks in between paychecks.

fusername...those repairs are totally going up...eventually. Thanks for the comments.
