De Konjel

Offroad VW based vehicles have problems/insights all their own. Not to mention the knowledge gained in VW durability.

I have no idea!
Found that picture on the internet. Think on Desert Rides. Did a quick check but couldn't find the builder.
I like the style.
Another option is a new gearbox bell housing.
They are made for Audi 5E engine and V6.
See if I can found more info.

Did some surfing on the internet and found out that the bell housing is an "original" VW part. The number is BCY 301 107A.
Checked with our local VW dealer but he couldn't order the part.
Its only available in South Africa.
Any South African Off Roaders that has more info???

Thanks, BART

The Bellhousing you're looking for...

Post by Michael Ghia »

The Bellhousing you're looking for is from a South African Transporter which came with Audi 5 cylinder engines.

It is a VW part but only available from South Africa. The part number doesn't exist anywhere else.

I have a couple of these bellhousings but am using them. They crop up on german ebay from time to time at sensible money.

Email me at [email protected] for more info. I can give you the SA part number along with the other assicated part numbers which go with it.

Hi
I am in South Africa and am in the process of selling my farm and am planning to build basic baja's to rent out to tourists. Will be starting in the new year. Spent 6 months in Amsterdam in 2002. The Dutch girls are TALL and slim. Good 6 months.
Anyway, I can source a bellhousing and find out freight costs.
cheers

bell housing

Post by adrian63 »

Well, I spoke to the VW agents in George yesterday, and the part no. BCY 301107A meant nothing to them. They told me to supply them with the engine and gearbox numbers, "and we will make sense of it". Not sure if the housing is available new any more.

But also spoke to a bloke specialising in conversions. He understood the request. The one he had was cracked, but I must call him next week when he gets back from Johannesburg.

I stay in a small town, Albertinia, about 100km west of George. So no local large suppliers. Should have info in a few days.

bell housing

If it helps, I am looking at a bell housing right now, and part number on it is BCY 301107A. Bell housing is South African, for mating Audi 5-cyl to Vanagon/Kombi transmission. Source was "Parts Place" in Detroit area, brought in to support sales of AEL engine special purchase, in 2004 I think.

bell housing

Well, there is a bell housing. The bad news is the bloke wants SAR 1,500 for it. @ 1 euro=10rand, means 150 euros.

The worse news is that DHL quotes SAR 2,341 for 5kg freight to the Netherlands. Bell housing delivered for 500 euros? Sounds like a lot.
Unless you don't tell the wife what it costs.

Hello Adrian, is the weight of the package 5kg ?
I will do some searching if I can find a cheaper option for the shipping.

Thanks for the great help, BART
