De Konjel

Offroad VW based vehicles have problems/insights all their own. Not to mention the knowledge gained in VW durability.

De Konjel

Post by Dutch VeeRod »

Thought I start a topic about my project! De Konjel............

Because I like the cars they use at the Paris-dakar race, etc. and always busy with vw's I want to build a BAJA style, 4 wheel drive and V6 powered "race" car.
Wanna use as much as possible VW parts so I use the complete driveline of a T3 Vanagon Syncro. From wheel to wheel.
So far I have the complete driveline and brake system.
So I would say: Let the games begin..............................

This was the car when I got it for free.

Image

And this is what the status is now.

Image

The gearbox from a T3 Vanagon syncro.

Image

The front Diff. from a T3 Vanagon syncro.

Image

The front and rear hubs. Also from a T3 syncro.

Image

The wheels are from Mercedes. Size 7x15 and the tires ar 31/10.50x15.

Image

Also have the drive shafts from a Vanagon syncro and the Brake calipers from a 2007 Golf Turbo Diesel.

Now I need to do some calculations and start cutting metal..............

shouldnt be very hard if you can fabricate. And you could use a VR6 motor. Although I would use the Audi I5 the turbo ones are nice.Should be a fun project though. :D

I have been wanting to do exactly this for a long long time. In fact allsierra mentioned he found a syncro in a junkyard just recently. This drivetrain is not easy to aquire.

I'll be watching closely!!

Good luck!

Does the drive shaft run above the tunnel or below the pan.
Looking to learn.

The driveshaft will run throught the tunnel. I need to weld a frame under the pan to improve the strenght and to mount the front diff. and the custom made A-arm front suspension.

Time for a little history story from the old continent.

In the village I live in is a little castle that goes back 11th century.
But in the 18th century the owner of that castle was a colonel from first the French army and later for the Dutch army. His name was Kolonel Majoie. Born in France. He was on the battle fields all over Europe like Waterloo etc. Fighting with and against Napoleon. He was choosen to escort Napoleon as one of the high ranked officers when Napolen was "forced" to go to St. Helena. So he was very famous at that time and when he retired from the army he came to the castle in Hilvarenbeek where I live.
The "funny" end of the story is that he died because of an infection of his leg because he has fallen over his own coffin that he made when he thought he was going to die on an age of 90.

To make a short story long: De Konjel is old dutch from the south of Holland and means The Colonel.

There is also a beer that is called De Konjel and the brewery is in our village. It is the oldest brewery from Holland that is still in the same place.

I just liked the name but also because of the history.......................

This is a great project keep us posted as you build it.
Hot, humid air is less dense than cooler, drier air. This can allow a golf ball to fly through the air with greater ease, as there won't be as much resistance on the ball.
