AP engine code
Do you guys know anything about type 4 engines that have AP as the first two letters in the engine code? This code isn't mentioned anywhere and I have no idea about its capacity or power output. This engine has twin carburettors and it came out from a '71 411 Variant Delivery Van.

I found some info about this engine from the tunacan.net. So, it has been produced in '74-'75 and has been in a transporter. I was quite surprised because I had thought that my parts car, a '71 411 Delivery van, still had it's original engine. This car used to have a twin-carb engine -I'm sure about this because it still had it's original wiring and didn't have any holes in the body for the FI-wiring and it had only one fuel line underneath. The engine seemed very original -it still had the original fabric-covered and colour-coded fuel lines and had a center-positioned round air filter which was used in the early 411's. Wasn't the air filter more angular in the later (for example '74-'75) type 4 engines? Perhaps I should ask someone here in Finland, which power plants did the 411 delivery van use. I guess the delivery van was quite rare anywhere else except in Scandinavia. I have seen several here and some photos of a car in Denmark.

Here are some pics I posted to thesamba.com some time ago:
This red car was my parts car. In this Picture you can see the twin carb engine fitted.

These photos are taken form the Finnish dealer magazine "Kupla". The car has max carrying loads painted on its front wing. The car was sold here as VW 411 Variant 90. 90 km/h was the max speed vans were allowed to use back in those days, hence the name.

This pic shows that the rear seat has been removed and replaced with a load area made of plywood. Here in Finland, these cars had also two fold-out seats for temporary use. You can also see (barely though...) the rubber latches that were used to tie those seats to the sides of the car when they were not used.

These cars were very basic and didn't have a clock or lighter or anything else you could consider as luxurious... The wheels were also often painted black. They didn't have any chrome trim either.
Now I wish I had taken more pictures of my parts car, 'cause I don't have it any more. It would have been nice to show you more pictures about the details of this rare van.

Thanks for posting those links; I do recall seeing something like this before (photos from somewhere), but I had forgotten about them. I guess I was expecting it to have the steel panels in place of the rear side windows like the type-3 panels had ( http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/album_ ... _id=312147 ).
I see what you mean about being basic; I noticed that there also wasn't any exterior side moulding either.
So, for the 90 km/h rule, were these cars speed-limited in any way (gearing, governors, etc.), or was it just expected that the driver would stay within the limit? That might sound like a really stupid question, but I'm curious.
Anyhow, thanks again.
