Making progress...

Offroad VW based vehicles have problems/insights all their own. Not to mention the knowledge gained in VW durability.

I picked up my harnesses this afternoon, so that's one more thing out of the way for this weekend. I got blue Crow harnesses. Pretty close match to the seats, but not perfect. They will look fine. After I take my wife and daughter out to dinner, the fever build begins! The goal is to drive it to work Tuesday morning... 8)

We're all pulling for ya Skid really good luck. We do want pics and vids.
Hot, humid air is less dense than cooler, drier air. This can allow a golf ball to fly through the air with greater ease, as there won't be as much resistance on the ball.

The Baja doesn't care, they work that is what matters.

Paint? What paint? I have been busy all day, instead of sitting on my a$$ messing around with the computer. But, there comes a time to quit for the day, so here are your progress updates...

I started out by remmoving the stub axles, bearings, and seals.

I welded all of the seatbelt mounts in...

I finished making the CV packing fixture.
Image

I mounted the seats and installed the harnesses.
Image

The seats fit really well, with minor overlap.
Image

Of course, the daughter just had to sit in it when I got the seats in...
Image

Not to be undone, I had to get behind the steering wheel... 8)
Image

I hung the doors, but I am missing a lot of hardware, handles, etc...
Image

I also fabbed my remote filler bulkhead and installed the filler.

Tomorrow morning I start to clean and prep the axles, bearing housings, caps, etc. for the drive line. Then pack all the bearings, CV's and put the axles in the car. I still need to finish mounting the front fiberglass, wire the head lights and off road lights, and a few other odds and ends before she drives for the first time. I started at 7 a.m., and now it's time to hit the hay. More updates tomorrow...

On your CV packer you might need to add a gasket so the grease does not fill up the area the axle goes into. Great work Skid, seats look comfy. Thanks for the updates.

I bought some fender washers to use as gaskets, so to speak. I was going to wrap them in painters tape for some "cush" when I bolt the two plates together. That way I don't fill up the splines with grease. More work tomorrow - with any luck there will be video of the car under it's own power before Tuesday... 8)

Well what can I say Skid? It is just amazing how much you got done. I work from home mostly and it is hard to be over worked. I did have to work manually some yesterday between wise cracks. I think I worked like three hours only made a measley 450 bucks. I try not to work what can I say. Life is so hard. Glad to see you working. I can't believe you left it bare metal. Get to work because we are watchin and you are being graded.

Today I wanted to have the driveline finished. I didn't quite make it. I spent the first three hours cleaning parts in preparation for the new stub axle bearings and seals. Being my first IRS, it took me longer because I didn't want to get it wrong. I am sure after doing it a few times I will get better at it. The stub axles/bearings/seals are all in now, and the rear brakes are installed and bled. Now it's on the the CV's and axles, but the family wants a movie tonight so that part will come tomorrow... 8)

I found that I am missing most of my door hardware, most importantly the latch mechanism, the rod to actuate it, and the outer door handles. This will stop me from driving it to work Tuesday. It won't stop me from driving it around the block with the doors duct taped shut though... 8) Hopefully I will get some video tomorrow of the car moving under it's own power for the first time...

...That's small taters...all that matters is what needs gettin' done is gettin' done.

Hey Skid, take the family out to a movie, dinner, etc... heck, you should take a month off...

(That way I can play catch up  )

Those seats look comfortable to say the least. How does it sit with two people in there? How do you think progress is going, going to make it?
