And I think the black on my jet-hot header looks pretty trick... I was going to do the same thing to my intake, but decided to powdercoat it because the price was right (free).
That looks more like a
" I DON'T CARE IF MY GREEN BEANS ARE SOGGY! GO TO YOUR ROOM, YOUNG MAN!"
The only turbos that have a water jacketed cartridge are BB turbos. All of my turbos are GT style.
The water is to help cool the turbo and keep the oil from crapping up from heat. You have to remember that the cartridges are OEM type peices and your wife or whoeve driving their turbo Suby around, dont think about their motor. They get off the freeway and park at the Market snd just sut the motor down etc.
Turbo Bob Hemphil has a Garret BB turbo with a gazillion street and race miles on it with NO water cooling whatsoever.
The ceramic dual BB system I use can run WITHOUT oil for while. Its that durable.
All of my turbos are custom built and I work with an Engineer to design them. ALL of these issues have been discussed many times.
If my bearings (in MY race car) arent fragging at 1800 degree EGT's, and the motor is shut down wth the turbo spinning at 100,000 RPMS with no oil pressure, chances are you wont have a problem.
Thats one of the reasons they sponsor me - to beat the crap out of stuff and tell them how it works.
