CB Hideaway Kit and Oil coming out Exhaust
Just like the title says I have oil spitting out of the exhaust and collecting on the tail pipe (it is not huge amounts but it is annoying). The floor underneath the exhuast has a bunch of oil freckles it gets worse with higher rpm. I also noticed today that I am getting increased amounts of smoke now. I wouldn't say it is blue but I also wouldn't say it is black. I have a 3 AN line feeding the turbo with a 1/2" line draining into the sump. Additional information engine has maybe 150 miles on recent rebuild (new everything). Engine is 2007 with Dual 40 dells set up for blowthrough, turbo is Garrett T3. Do I need a restriction in the oil feed line (what do you use) or do I need a new oil seal in the turbo. I hope it isn't the muffler bearing.
Thanks
Thanks

this is a problem with the hideaway. some people put a scavenge pump on the drain side of the turbo to pull away the oil. as the turbo is lower than the oil level in the engine. Oil needs to flow away from the turbo not be held against it on the drain side. some people run 1 qt low in the engine too. I would go with a pump. I had a hideaway and got rid of it quick due to this and clearance issues.

I use a VW autostick oil pump as a scavenge pump. It fits on just like a stock oil pump but has a second pump on the outside you can use to scavenge the oil from the turbo. It works like a dream.

Ryan, you're a bigger baby than Seth. Quit your whining. If you really check the exhaust, most of that stuff spewing out is condensation and exhaust soot. It does it everytime the motor is started, especially this time of year in Michigan. In the summer, when the temp is above 60 deg. consistently(as opposed to 40s and humid like now) it will be much less. Although it will still happen with the humidity we see. I'm sure it's not a drain issue. The car never smoked or spewed anything on launch which is where you would think it would be a problem. I usually did run it about a half quart low. THe motor i have now, draw thru with huge return line to fuel pump mount area does the same thing upon start up. In fact, you should see what the rear apron looks like, it's a mess. Condensation is a huge issue this time of year, especially, when you just start it up in the garage!!! so shut up and drive it. You still going to the pizza bash Sat.?

yea mine does that also.
its really random, but does seem to happen more on humid cool days.
I have a few spots where i can see where its happened in my driveway, i also run a pump for the oil drain so i know its not the issue.
it only happens once a day also when i start it after sitting overnight.
just a vw.

Thanks guys. I called CB and they said that I should put a 200 Dellorto Main Jet in for a restriction (Marieann didn't talk to Pat). Are you guys running restrictions out there? Ron, I put the liquid in question on my finger and it surely is oil not carbon condensation. It was very slippery and sure felt like oil. Anyway I am also running the oil down at the bottom line on the dipstick so I already am a quart low. I am planning on going to Pizza but I will not be drinking just got over Sleep Apnea Surgery. For those of you contimplating this procedure I woud think twice. All I can say is I lost 10 lbs in two weeks because I couldn't eat.

Brillo,
Not sure exactly the specs on the turbo. I bought the kit from a guy who said CB set it up for his motor. Everything was new, not rebuilt. The only specs I could get out of him were .48 ex and a .60 compressor. CB had to weld an adaptor plate on the header mounting flange as it has that strange 4 bolt pattern where one bolt is out further.
I'm sure that isn't oil..it may feel slippery and oily but I doubt if it is. The way I look at it, if things clear up when you run it...and especially on boost...no big deal even if it is a little oily on start up...at least you know the turbo is getting lubed
The reason I came down on you in my first post is I know you. First you start to worry, then you whine, then you spend. As long as it isn't a precursor to destruction...drive it. I need a west michigan turbo'd VW buddy to hang with. See you tomorrow.
