Well, I got my sleeved block. Will get pictures up shortly. Have not been able to work on it because i threw my back out. Waiting for my piston rings anyway. I think I could have reused the piston from that cylider. It looks scuffed more than the others, but not too bad. Better safe than sorry I guess.

Sexy!
I'm sure its just an optical illusion because the tops of the new sleeves are squared off, but they look thicker than the old factory sleeves.
Any reason to try and get a larger bore out of these things? I know the old adage about "no replacement for displacement" but in these turbo 4s, seems bigger is not always better?

They seem to be real close to the same thickness, just much stronger since they are all steel.Plasticfantastic wrote:Sexy!![]()

You can get it sleeved for 2.4l pistons(3.5"), but like you said, with a turbo it isnt really going to make much difference in power.

Figured I was about due for an update.
The engine runs great. I have ditched the GT35 turbo for a smaller GT3076R turbo. I have 8lbs of boost at 2200rpm and 15 lbs at 3200rpm. This combo made 266rwhp and 264rwtq on a Dynojet dyno. this equates to 380-400hp at the crank since it has to go thru the Mendeola trans and 930 CV's. Took the car to the Dumont dunes this MLK weekend and ran it for 3 days. Nice to be able to pull 4th gear up comp hill! My weekend ended when I bent a rear trailing arm while either jumping or hitting the whoops hard in 4th gear(around 70mph).
I am going to try instaslling a set of Comp Cams turbo cams to see if i can get a bit more rpm out of it(drops off at 6000rpm) and will try a .63 turbine housing in place of the .48 I have now. If what I have found is true, I should make more HP, spool quicker(or at least the same), and extend the rpm range.
Stay tuned.
Here is a pic of the car in the dunes.
