My rail project (56K go bake a cake)

Offroad VW based vehicles have problems/insights all their own. Not to mention the knowledge gained in VW durability.

All the wheels... tranny.. arms... etc all installed and alighned..

I can't tell you the number of rails I've been around that were 1/2" off somewhere...

After it's coated much toughter to get straight...

PS.. I know of a local shop in Elk River that knows dubs and does metal straghtening and alignment.

The guys I was working with last night discovered a funky alignment issue.

Yep, everything was installed. We didn't do an alignment but I don't forsee a problem with that, there is plenty of adjustability in the front end.

Unfortuantely few folks know how to read a tape measure when they assemble..

I can't tell you the number of times I've seen rails put together on an uneven surface.

hahaha sweet pic. It's not right hand drive, that is where the passenger's grab handle goes.

UPDATE 12/13

The final assembly has begun! We picked it up from the powdercoaters yesterday, for the price they did a pretty good job. If anyone in the Twin Cities area needs powdercoating done I would recomend Powder Coating Technologies in Plymouth, MN.

Check this out, I just looked a little closer at their page and found something. Take a look at the last little picture in this pic, that sure looks like an aircooled cylinder tin and intake manifold to me, fate brought me to them

Time for the unvailing.........

We also hauled ass last night and got some stuff back on after we got it back to Don's place. The spring plates went on a little easier than they came off, probably thanks to the new bushings and spring plates.
Image

By the time we got them compressed enough I thought the ratchet strap was going to snap and cut me in half  We got the trailing arms back on as well as the freshly cut and painted Thing drums. The 5 to Ford adapter is on the drum in these pics. I was going to put the wheels on and take a picture but they look like crap right now and need to be FLITZ'ed

The last thing we got done was putting the front end back on, the spindles still need to go on but it was the season finale of Nip/Tuck last night so work needed to stop.

Oh, and If you somehow hadn't guessed the theme to my buggy...this should pretty well explain it.

Does look nice, when is the projected drive date? Can't wait to see what it looks like all together, or hear you first comment you hit the gas.

Or the discussion you'll have with the MudDuck Cops (Mudduck is Wisconsin slang for MN folks).

They break...A LOT.
They do make high quality adapter...but these are not them...And by the time you buy the high quality ones...you could just buy the correct wheels for the same price.

Tim, you said that you were not running adapters when your wheel fell off, so it sounds just as likely to happen weather I run adapters or not.
