anyone have the cb hideaway turbo kit?

Post by bugN66 »

I'm at the design stage of my motor build up and I was planning on going all motor...........Untill I sawa turbo bug rock the hell out of a drag 5.0.

I'm new to bugs and aircooled motors so I was wondering if you all could help me out.

I was planning on going 1915cc all motor but what about with the turbo? Can I get away with a 1776 or a well built 1600cc? The car is going to be daily driven and I want it to be somewhat reliable. Is this kit any good? What about it being non- intercooled? What kinda HP should I expect from a 1600cc and 1776 w/ the kit?

Thanks all.

The 1915 with a blow through setup could be as reliable as you want it to be. My first turbo setup in HS was a CB blow through on a 1776. EFI is always better but the carb blow through works real good too.

what kinda HP were you making with the 1776 Matt? Also how was the reliability?

I want to go turbo but if I will get more HP by going with a 1915 non turbo then I will go with that.

I just think a turbo beetle would be cool and diff. No one around here has one so I would be it Image

I don't really know how much hp out of the 1776. Probobly somewhere around 130-140hp. The reliablity of the motor wasn't the issue it was me keeping my fingers off the boost knob.

If I was going to do it all over again I would go 1915cc. No differance in price for machine work or P&C's also no differance in reliability between the 94 and the 90.5.

What's going to make more power you ask? The 1915 turbo. Don't waste your time with 90.5's. In a mild state of tune with an FK-7 or FK-8 and some decent heads (044-40x35.5 on up) you should have no problem making 160+hp with low boost. And with that 160+hp you can take it to the strip, long distance, commute, etc.
