Valve adjustment

Post by D JACKSON »

Has anyone on the forum ever adjusted the valves on a type one hot then checked them when the engine was cold to see how much off they were? I have always set them when the engine was dead cold. is this the way they HAVE to be set? Just wondering????? Thanks in advance, Don Jackson

It's hard to adjust them hot due to the fact that they change quickly when hot. By the time you get around to the end, the clearances would be already different on the ones you have already adjusted. With aluminum pushrods, there should not be much change in clearance.. Steel pushrods always loosen up when hot, so just setting them to zero is about the best you can do.
