Where can i find some information about intercoolers
www.spearcointercoolers.com
I understand that Spearco has been bought by Turbonetics (ugh) but the product line is to remain as-is. They also sell a good book on intercooling. Hope that helps.

Spearco Intercoolers recently came on as a sponsor on the RLR New Beetle. Check out there website. There are a few technical article worth reading. When you are ready to buy, let us know, we are a Spearco/Turbonetics dealer! RLR (714) 630-2091

Where can i find some information about intercoolers
in my usual dream state, i was looking at this page http://www.spearcointercoolers.com/airliq00.htm
at the bottom left, item A
i would imagine, If no shorud was in the way, with a configuration similar, this could actually be used as the center section between the end castings.

Oh you better believe it Mike! I have built 7 or 8 water/air setups for VW based engines that were laid out in that manner, it works great. The one in the drawing you were looking at is HUGE and weighs a ton too, it is for a big V8 twin turbo style application and uses 4 of those 2-171 cores that are 4.5x4.5x10 inches EACH. You can do a really good job on even a pretty big VW race motor with just one of those cores, although I have built a couple with 2 in series. Starts getting heavy at that point though, if you have a hard hitting car you'd better have some strong end castings and a good brace on it.

Tracy, you can only use those with an injection setup right? Not with a draw-through? Please confirm.
Thanks!

The ones we used on the NB are similar to the small one in the lower right of the picture. There are two stacked on top of each other. The top one has a 90 elbow on top and the bottom is fabbed to the Pauter manifold. Pictures coming soon, I promise! Needless to say, there are do problems with the draw-through setup!

Wow look I am getting so good now I got people answering questions FOR me LOL. Marty, I used to believe all those people that said "you cant run fuel through an intercooler" until I did it myself a few years ago just to see, and it worked fine. So the answer is yes you can, but there IS one little drawback I will email and tell you about. We'll let the other guys find out the hard way so that when it happens to them they will have a funny story to tell hehe. All that aside, if you have a choice injection is a far better way to go, either MFI or EFI depending on what you are familiar with. As you know, both of my turbo/intercooled race motors run alcohol EFI and I will tell you right now it solves a lot of problems.
