Pnumatic valve are no air activated. The engine still uses camshafts it just does not use valve springs.

has anyone else heard of this?...i read it in my recent issue of popular hot rodding(i like all types of hi-po...but vw's still more)and they said it was a gathering of gear heads that are developing new everything for internal combustion engines...one guy invented a way of using electric solinoids to activate the valves...that means program a specific lift and duration at any given rpm...that is crazy!!!he also said that he has tested a prototype on a v8 4barrel all the way to 10,000 rpm...sounds very intriguing!!!dosen't it?

I heard about that several years ago. Unlimited driveability and performace combined. Punch the go peddle and the power is there, cruise down the street without burning have your tank to get to the 7-11. The problems at the time were cost (shot down the turbine cars) and effectiveness. Those solenoids can only go so fast for so long. I have also heard of using servos for better control.

I really ruined one of my instructers days (while in some training in Yorktown, VA) when he told me he came up with this wild idea that he would like to try and figure out. Then I told him that it wasn't new. He wasn't very happy with me (not like I was the one that invented it, I wish).

I would have thought hydraulic valve actuation. 10,000 lb spring pressures? No Problem!
