Aloha Kids! I'm a complete gremmie about turbo's. I know some basic theory at best. With that foundation laid, here's what I'm dreaming....I have a 1.8 T4 with trans that I'm planning to install in my '69 baja. I'd like a turbo not for racing and such but for high altitude use. I go from sea level to 13,788' quite often and my current T1 gets to weezing up at altitude. So I thought a small turbo would fit the bill since I'm not really going to be revving this engine above 5,000rpm. Since I'm putting in the big block, I thought I'd kill two birds with one stone. I'm not sure if there's a kit or do I have to fabricate? If I have to fabricate, What pieces do I need to collect?
Thanks, Theo

For a good basic DIY turbo system go to
http://www.dune-buggy.com/turbo/index.htm
The exhuast is going to be a custum fabbed piece. As for fuel set-up (blow-thru, draw-thru or efi) your are going to have to decide on your own. There have been some recent discusion on this in the past so just scroll down the index. Personally, in your case ( from sea level to 13K altitude) I would look at efi.
Hopes this helps

Aloha Kid,
I think your'e a gremmie about vw's too. A 1.8L aint no "Big Block" when you got 3.0L motors out there. It might be big on your block, but thats about it. That T4 is gonna weez the same as that T1 if its not tunned correctly....hell, I bet you weez yourself! Lay off the buds and you can do it!

Dude, You need to stop smoking your skidmarked underwear. It's simple smallblock =T1, Big block= T4. You can bore, stroke, port parts out or whatever configuration but your still dealing with a small or big block or technically, small or large case.
