OK folks, ive posted a couple of posts here on the forced ind. forum, and I've gotten SO MANY different answers, but one common theme was to start off with a good base engine(obviously!) How about a CB Performance drop in stroker kit? They claim that there is no case clearancing needed, only to bore for larger cylinders. It uses longer than stock rods and everything in the engine is forged. If I got that and some CB 044 heads(40x36) or (42x37). My question is, would the longer than stock rods be bad for a turbo engine? This setup seems great! the drop in kit comes with forged chromoly 76mm crank, forged 5.5" rods, forged pistons, cylinders, ring wrist pins and clips. The kit is only $840. The heads are $284. by the time I get the case machined, get a cam, oil pump, fan, and everything to go with it, the complete turnkey wouldnt be all that pricey. Hows that sound? THanks, cale Reeves

I too have pondered the drop in kit. I see no problem with that kit at all. I have CB 82mm and it's a great crank. Go with the larger valves (42x37.5) as turbo motors like to breathe. Good luck and let us know the turn out.

You can get way more than 1800cc's out of the CB kit, and apparently, you can use a VW case with no stroke clearancing necessary. How can you call it a drop in kit if you still have to have Riimco clearance it?! With the CB kit, you can get something like 2020 and 2109 engine for much less cost than the rimco engine. How much would that complete setup your talking about cost?

If you plan to run a turbo on this engine and run it on the street you should go with stock length rods, otherwise your powerband is going to be too high to have fun on the street without wakeing every cop within a 2 mile radius. The turbo will make all the power you can ask for below 6000 rpm and it's much easier on the motor.

so when you have the longer than stock rods, the low end torque goes to poop?

FWIW, we regularly supply 84 X 94mm engine parts that are a DROP IN, provided you have RIMCO bore the case for 94s, and cut for long stroke, AND get our clearanced camshaft. It's a BOLT IN, you just have to make sure nothing hits, and you get 2332 instead of a measly 1800.

The longer the rods the higher up the rpm scale the powerband moves.

in a quarter mile race, would that mean that I'm gonna have slower et's? this is not a drag car, its a daily driver, but I want to take it to hobby lobby( the racer's meet there) and spank a high 12 second camaro that talks alot of mess!
Would I have any acceleration if I had these longer rods? Will I still be able to pull the front off the ground in first? Thanks, Cale Reeves

Do not be afraid of clearancing. It is one of the simpler aspects of assembling a monster motor.
My Scat I beams in VW journal and 5.4" length, Web clearanced cam, and CB 82mm crank is a drop in installation with generic stroker clearancing.

case clearancing is totally overrated in it's "complexity". To me a "drop in" kit is where you can get the parts and build the engine. The 2275 (or even our 2332) is a "drop in", the only thing is the case is machined at RIMCO and you just clean everything. while that's not a "drop in" in your definition of the term, it IS a drop in kit, since basically just bolt it together and run it, with no additional clearancing. For the extra $100 or so you get 400ccs, that's a great return on your investment.
