I dont \"NEED\" FI for turbo right?
Hello, I hear people saying they rather go blown than have to buy FI to turbo their engine. I realize it is easier to setup and all, but I have dual dell 40's, wanna turbo, dunno if I will go single or dual, but isnt the turbo emulsion tubes supposed to solve the problems of rich mix at low boost? I mean, I would love to have FI, but you know....somethings have to wait, and the turbo is doable now....so what is the problems I dont see? I mean, was there not turbos, b4 fuel injection???

FI is doable as easily, if not easier than fitting a turbo.Ther is a lot of info around about fitting bosch K-jet which is infinitly adjustable to suit your engine requirements.A complete system from a breakers won't cost you the earth ,go for it and search the FI forum.

well, bobtail, looks as your the only one who
could answer my question! Thanks...I think Ill go with carbs for now, besides the plug
and forget of fuel inject, I think it will probably put out close to the same HP,thats
cool with me, if it means give up a few hp and haveing to play with my setup a little more (I actually enjoy it) its worth saving
that 1000-3000 bones to put elswhere

Thasnks guys, for the replys. I am in no way doubting you guys experiance. I have read turbomania, but would like to find a book that is unbiased....I think blow thru looks to be what everyone agrees on as far as all around satisfaction. Bob, I always hear people gripe about carbs, but mine have worked very, very well for me since day one! Maybe I am just lucky, or used to carbs in general! I do realize I will get more milage, but since when do us yankees care bout economical
lol, anyway I am really stoked, been doing some serarches but cant find really anything that I dont already know about aircooled turbo, I would like to see a site with people's accts building and running their ride, pics....etc. Also I am looking for turbos for sale, for instance and only a few useful sites I can find, and ebay it is so hard to find a search que that list just the turbo itself, without having to sort thru crap, full cars and all, I dunno if I would get anything off ebay anyway as I have no way to be certain it isnt junk. What about kawell and their turbos? Prices..,info....basically I am way too excited to have money in my pocket now!!!! I just moved from Phoenix, where performance vw are a dime a dozen, but here ther are few, and they are just function vehiks...ya know, so I wanna get this setup by winter, then unleash the fury on the local punks!!!mmmuuuuaaaaaahahahahhaha...hehehehehehe...oh man, just got root canal and have been on vicoden!!! So......

Sven, check out "Maximum Boost" by Corky Bell. It was written only a few years ago so it is the most up-to-date book on turbocharging currently available (AFAIK). Hugh MacMannus also has a book called "Turbochargers" that has recently been reprinted with new info and photos.

Of course a turbo with carb is doable, the vast majority of turbo setups have used and still use a carb, not EFI. A draw through is the esiest to setup but has a few draw backs as well, mainly related to drivability but can make monster power Check TURBOMANIA,avail from CB .If you can get past the sad attemps at humour and self congratulation on several subjects, there is some good stuff about carb/turbo setups both blow through and draw through,in fact a few OEM blow throughs notably MG,Lotus and the odd ball Eyetalian sedan were carb blow trough .Seems stateside the draw through was the way to gofor Corvair, early eighties buick and pontiac efforts prior to EFI

Sven. Reconsider, carbs are bad enough without a turbo.
You will get better gas mileage with FI,
You can still tweak to your hearts desire there are no emulsion tubes, idle /pilot or main jets to worry about,
I wish I was in Austin I could show you how not to spend loads of money.

The book Turbo and Supercharging available at www.autospeed.com I've heard is very good. I am going to buy it. 21st Century Performance is also great with info on all aspects of modern cars.
