turning engine by hand...

Post by kiaora »

Hi...

Ive got all my bottom end together with heads, rocker covers and plugs in. Flywheel on and end play set.

Im using a torque wrench to turn the engine on the crank. It turns over smoothly but gets very hard to turn when its compressing. Even though it gets stiffer to turn its not grinding or anything, still smooth, but a lot more pressure is required to turn it.

It then gets really easy to turn when it get passed that stage and so on...

What im really asking is how easy should it be to turn and if it sounds like its too hard, whats causing it ?

I turned the 1200 ive got in the same way, an doesnt seem quite as hard to turn over at the point where its starts building up pressure and hissing.

(its a 1776, c/w crank, c35 cam, 043 stock heads)

Thanks ! :)

That is perfectly normal, that's what compression strokes are for.
If you want to feel the how smooth everything is turning remove the
spark plugs, if all seems good - Fire that puppy up!
