Turbo size pro/cons!

Post by panel »

If my turbo is to big for my application can you guys tell me what to do to make it work better? Besides downsize. 1600cc with a Rajay FB-40. Can I run a smaller exhaust? I'll be running a 1 3/8" header. How about the 'T' section size and the exhaust pipe from the turbo out size....can I make them smaller to accomidate the larger size of turbo.
As long as the thing makes some power under 6500 RPM I should be happy!

If your set on 1600cc, I would try to find another turbo. Using a unit that is too large for the application would need lots of power just to get it spooled up. You could unload it on eBay and pick up another one. I see rusty units there all the time going for $100.00 or more. The cheapest unit I was $75.00, and I think that was because it didn't have a photo linked to it.

Look for a turbo from a GEO Metro they had a very small engine (Smaller then 1600) and the turbo works great on a stock 1600 VW. It spools up right off idle.
