Ok, Now does anyone know what exactly all the letters and numbers mean when you buy a turbo? Say a TO4 .60A/R V-trim. What is the .60 the A/R of the compressor or turbine? The trim number, what is that the trim of? I can really use this info so I can tune the turbo in to where I want it. Plus you can go to the junk yard and know what you are looking at.

Chuck,

Here is some info that I've collected on the Garrett/AiReasearch turbochargers. The T02, and T03 are suitable for smaller displacement engines. The T04 should be used for engines over 2 liters. I've seen seen where people have used the T04 on smaller engines, I would guess that they are not real streetable and the owner has to keep the rev's up to take advantage of the larger turbo; or it could be one of the hybrid T3/T4 units that can be used on smaller engines. (This is only an un-educated guess)

The .60 is the A/R of the turbine housing. The smaller the number, the quicker the boost. The larger A/R's require more RPM's to get the boost up.

The Trim is a method of identifying the combination of turbine/compressor wheel to housing performance ratios. I think that the V-trim is standard for the T04 series.

If your bone yard yard picker like me, call up Turbo City and ask for their turbo replacement flyer. It a good source for information on cars that were equiped with turbo's. It list the Make, Model, Year of the car. The engine size, and the car manufactuers P/N as well as the turbocharger OEM P/N.

Turbonetics has a great site on turbochargers. The link below is the applications guide. http://www.turboneticsinc.com/guidelines.html
