turbo connections

Post by buddy »

Hi

I am considering fitting a turbo from a car (renult 5 turbo) but want to know what the connections are on the turbo. on the exhaust side there is a small round thing with two connections which I presume are for water but do not know, I know that there are turbos avalable without. Obviously as the beetle is of the air cooled variety I would not have easy water. Would you just not connect it or would you have to fit some water system or is it not even for water.

Included is a picture showing what I mean (i hope).

Leave the URL for the pic, it's easier than putting a pic on the page.
Early R5 Turbo's (Phase one) had oil cooled turbos so no water jacket. This would be the turbo to use. You could also use the carb from the same car on the stock Beetle manifold. I've seen it done before with a R18 Turbo carb. Cheap, not as powerful as twins but it'll work.
If the turbo is in good condition, you should be able to sell it easily to one of the R5 brigade.
