100 HP 2.0 Litre??

Hey all,

Just bought my first Aircooled as a Christmas present to myself and am now in the process of gettin' educated.

Been reading Tom's excellent site on Type 4 (Thanks Tom) and noticed this on his site: "Performance: First reason is, of course, for increased performance. A stock 2.0 liter can put out 100hp in stock form"

My bus has 67 HP. How do I get it to crank out 100? Especially stock! I'd sure love another 33 HP when puttering up these hills.

It was only a few configurations of the engine that put out that BHP, you will need to do a bit of rebuilding to get yours to do that. A cam, carb and exhaust change would be a good start..

not to mention you would need the 914 2.0 Heads with 42 x 36 valves and you would need the European domed 94mm Mahle pistons. Only Euro 914's had 100hp. If you use the US 2.0 Mahle pistons, that motor was
rated at 95hp.

Porsche heads are less than optimum for a bus. Their castings are crack prone when heavily loaded, unless extensively modified.

I have a bus combination soon available in kit form that I have dyno tested and proven over and over to make 93BHP and 128 lb/ft of torque and uses Bus head castings with larger valve installed nad correct port margins for the camshaft used.

It can use stock EFI or carbs, as I have a version for each. The engine is still stock 2.0 displacement and built to Bus specs, but it retains its strength and has very cool running characteristics...
Its all about efficiency!

Bus engines need a broad powerband with peak HP below 5K and max torque at less than 4250. With these characteristics the bus is fun and easy to drive and can pull hills without a downshift.

Jake could you please let me know when your bus combination kit will
become available,I would be interested.
I have a 73 westy pulling a trailer + atv,which desperately needs more
torque.
I have a spare 1.7l core to build from and dual 34itc Webers.

Domed Euro Pistons? Where can I find them? I have flat topped euro spec pistons making 8:1.

No such animal as 94mm domed pistons, only the 90mm were domed.

I've got 94 mm with domes in my bus. They are Co-fap. I bought them from FAT.
