The Single-Relief Screamer continues...
I was thinking that for my ultra-high-performance application,
It would be good to use an oil pump from a dual-relief case - 26mm.
If I matched the inlet passage by wallowing the hole in the case out bigger,
and plugged the outlet for a full flow cover...
Would this make a nice setup to help push more oil around?
Or would I have problems like suction passage restriction,
or the plunger running too deep,
or oil filters bursting?
or something like that?
Thanks for the wisdom,
Steve

You could just buy a small-passage 26mm pump, but so far as I know that means a cast-iron housing and I'm no fan of those.
You'll be wasting some power and risking blowing up an oil cooler or at least blowing out a filter O-ring if you rap it out cold...I don't think you should really need more than a 21mm pump (311 115 107AKHD) but if you go with 26mm you should consider a Berg relief-valve cover.

Oil Pump
If every thing is tight and new, the small oil passages will deliver more then enough Oil. You must remember if you pump more oil then is needed it will just go by the pressure relife valve and then there is a greater chance of the oil being aireated. (which is not good) Bigger is not always better Vic. **Page Index at -> http://www.1800vw.bizhosting.com/page_index.htm

Have a Berg relief cover to use if needed.
The old pump body is here, and in good shape but not the gears anymore..
I guess if I could find a used 21mm pump, then the gears are not what is typically worn, right?
As long as it's aluminum body...
So if I find another 21 pump, (even iron) and put the gears in, then it would have to be measured.
Measuring backlash would mean using a feeler gauge and wedging between the gear teeth?
Might have to trim down a couple of feelers into strips?
Am I on the right track?
Thanks for the good reading, Vic.
I fell better about my line-bored case...

Buy a new one.
Oil pumps are like your heart, If it's bad nothing else maters.
111 115 107 AHD 8x26 new oil pump is less the $22.00 See Oil Pump "Parts Book" <> http://www.1800vw.bizhosting.com/0.oil.pump_ect.htm

Is my idea of finding a used or iron pump,
and then scavenging the gears out of it,
a legitimate one?
How likely am I to have the gears from another pump fit my housing?
You can measure backlash with a feeler gauge, right?
Had a bad experience with an iron pump once, and would like to use this cherry early pump body I have here...
Thanks again guys,
Steve
