911 cylinders for wasser
Hey, Does anyone have the external dimensions for 911 cylinders. I have seen Jim Lutz's site with a picture of a wasser with 911s on it. I think he has used 97s with the metal o-ring. The info would save me from buying a Bentley manual.
I want to use the water cooled heads with air cooled cylinders ala 959 or 962 porsches. I would like to avoid spending the cash on custom barrels from LN. Thanks.

Yeah I know they're bucks, but EBS is re-nikasiling them. The 95mm 3.2 ones are somewhat common used since they made so many of those engines. Besides, if i wanted cheap I would have bought a chevy!Muffler Mike wrote:not that i would know, but you want the outer demension at the edge of the fins?

Anything you have. I think the 3.6s are too large in diameter, but its good info to have. Would you be willing to part with your CAD file? If so I use CATIA at work, but I can take all of the usual suspects like IGES, parasolid, etc.Wesayso wrote:What sizes would you like,
I have the 964 sizes (100mm cylinders) in my 3D model
The finsizes might differ some, but the cylinder is quite accurate

Thanks Mike. If you get a chance to take some measurements it would be appreciated. BTW, every time I've met to you at a VW show, you have been super cool. your looking for mounting surface to head, correct?
definitly too short with out a big spacer or siameseing two together.

Thanks for the link. I see you used type 1 LN barrels. I'm assuming they cut them down for you like that euro-guy Morten? The reason I wanted the porsche barrels was because i wanted to try a hybrid cooling set-up. Its such a pain to work on the wassers with the water jackets in place. I test fit some type 4s but I think it would be too much work to get them to work. The stud spacing is so much different and the fins are too thick between the cylinders. I would have to EDM them.
By the way, who did your case work? I used to live in Tacoma so I was a little curious. I know rocky jennings and strickly german both do it but I have never had any work done by them. I've seen them both at Pacific Raceway (SIR), but i never got an impression of their capabilities. I'll probably end up doing most of it myself at work with Rimco doing the tricky stuff.

Awsome project Tom! very nice indeed.
I am very curieus if the Nickies make up for the -less than optimal- cooling abilities of the SE's on street driving conditions.

Thanks, but the 964s are too big. I just measured my wasser head. Interestingly, the stock wasser cylinders are even inch sizes. The head side is 4.188 and the height is 3.800. Although, the case side is 100mm. Was the case designed in Germany and the heads in the US? Don't worry. This is just "crack smoking" on my part. If you get a chance to do it cool. If not, oh well. I still have to check the deck height of the case from centerline. It looks like the 911 cylinders are 13mm short. That seems like a really big spacer to me. I'm assuming that the wassers have the same center to top of cylinder height as a type 1. Maybe not. Maybe it doesn't matter. I'm probably going to fab all of the fan shroud and tin anyway.Muffler Mike wrote:Im sorry, i dropped the ball on friday.

i thew up some pics real quick of what i was lookin at on friday. the rest will end up on my web page, but these would probably be the ones you might like.
the first you will see how short they really are in comparison of where they might need to be. Both using just slightly short of an 84 crank on about a 5.6" rod on an overwidth pauter block.
