16 Valve Heads

Post by theo_m24 »

I wondering how much more possible HP a 16 Valve head would make???

I wrote the guys at Arao and this is what they sent me........
The website will be updated in about a month. But they are a bolt on
16v head with valve area equal to a single 71mm intake valve and 60 mm
exhaust valves

That would be interesting indeed!
Especially since Porsche decided that a 4 valve aircooled head could not be cooled properly for road use: the middle two exhaust ports would have a problem. Porsche then made the heads watercooled.
If they make it for drag racing only, it would not be a problem, but I'am more into street applications.
More info if you search with 'Apfelbeck'

A friend of mine, Roberto, is working on the completion of a 3-valve OHC head for the type 4 for road use. Initial flow figures were very promising!
Should be a year or so before completion.

Greetings,
Walter

if money wasn't an issue, run the nickies, squish pistons, and porsche fan shroud. things might be interesting there.

Posches 4-Cam Motor was Bad ass.... If I remember right the 550 porsche last Flat four Racer..... After that they went back and forth between 6 and 8 cylinder motors to compete with the bigger motors of the Competition......

have you guys seen the rocker arm setup in the arao heads? doesn't look promising for anything faster than about 1500 rpms, but maybe that is still in the works.

Hi Theo,
Very nice picture! Impressive indeed, but a 4 cam motor is something different than 4 valve per cylinder engine!

Haven't seen that arao cam set-up. Where is it on their site?

just out of curiosity why does no one use the 4 cam heads on a T1? we've all seen the sohc heads adapted you'd think more options would be possible with the 4 cam like variable timing and such.

I saw the price at DragDay and it was in excess of $2k if you have that kind of money, go for it! Hopefully the price will drop as supply catches up with demand and the casting is perfected.
