Cool article! Thanks. But.....what the gentleman is adjusting in the picture is actually the MPS not the fuel pressure regulator. Reporters...just can't trust em  Ray

First test results
Inlet 271 cfm 0.500" lift at 27" ( compleet whit manifold etc.)
Exhaust 215 cfm 0.500"lift at 27"

And still a lot to improve

:)

Thanks Roberto!

And I know that was with two 36mm intake valves and one 42mm exhaust valve.
According to the book Apfelbeck wrote, two 38mm intake and one 46mm exhaust is possible!

Thanks for the update!

Very cool! What's the story behind these heads? Are they made specifically for the Type 4 motor? Will they be going into production? I think I'm in love.

How are the cams driven? Simple gears and timing belt off the crank pulley?

notice it was measured at 27" .......

Flow rate would be a little lower,
if measured at the normal 26".

Hi Don,
Yes, you're right: Roberto went through the documentation of the SuperFlo machine and it has a re-calculation sheet from 27 to 25" that is a 3 or 4% difference. So what. Flow numbers are very high in his first (!) attempt anyway.
It should be mentioned that he measured flow WITH the manifold (a temporary one) and a throttle body (45mm). Normally the flow numbers of heads are quoted without carb/thottle body and manifold. This would be more than a 3-4% difference when left off.

Alpine, yes these heads were specificly designed for the type 4. The designer of those heads even stated that on a 2 liter type 4, 230 (DIN) hp would be possible!
As for production, it would be possible I suppose, but who would be willing to pay more than even the ('big daddy') Remmele heads cost? After all, besides the heads themselves, you would also need the special pulleys, intermediate shaft, intake manifolds and special camshafts. It adds up quickly also because its all custom. Consider just only the problem of different strokes with regard to your cam drive: you would need a different cam belt for each engine configuration and stock cambelts of car manufacturers only come in specific lengths; Its just one of those 'minor' problems, although I heard Roberto thought of something clever for that one...

Paul, I hope that answered your q as well. AFAIK, the cams will be belt driven from the pulley and probably with an intermediate shaft for the left cylinderbank (nr. 3 and 4) to overcome the otherwise too long of a cam extention.

Greetings,
Walter

Not sure; all I know is that he used a stock 42mm 914 2,0 ltr intake valve to be used just for flow testing purposes as an exhaust valve. There's a wide range of aftermarket and OEM for valves, springs etc, so I'am sure he'll find appropiate ones.
Why do you want to know?

Hi Bash555,
In the book you mentioned "Wege zum 4 Takt Hochleistungsmotoren" the molds and heads that Roberto has aquired are discussed and pictures of them are in that book also.

I have a german copy of the book and also seen the heads and molds in person. Very exiting stuff!

He's now working on the cam drive. It will take some time, but he will definately get there!

Greetings,
Walter
