I knew I didn't want one of those cases after I saw it 2 weeks ago on your dyno. This is just the final nail in that box. Finish it off and plant it in the back yard in an unmarked grave (after you get the good parts off of it).

Well I just looked at the shots of the damage... nice crack in the bellhousing. I would think that as the drive shaft tried to leave the scene
that it did some load shifting.....just a thought

I know.... It looks EXACTLY like the cracks that always happen in 1500 cases, same exact place.

It's very tempting to slam the case, but the driveshaft DID let go...
Couldn't have done it any favors.
Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

Its hard to say... If the shaft would have jammed against the drive plate and stalled the engine I would be easier convinced that it had something to do with it... The fact that the drive shaft broke free of the entire rotating assembly could not have transmitted that much shock to the engine. There is no way that it had more shock than a 5500RPM clutch drop with slicks.

Who knows, BUT I'll be willing to bet that an AS 41 case would have taken the pounding and lived through it much better than this thing did.

Its installis getting finished up tomorrow- I can't wait to drop the hammer on it!

Jake, is this the same case you've had laying around for awhile? Is it from the infamous
'first batch'?

Yep....

Its the first and last batch as far as I'm concerned.....Someone needs to do some homework on this sucker!

I found 2 more cracks a few minutes ago- One was right by the oil pump. They are not as large as this one though.

Jake, speaking about 1915, the 'test' one I got from you summer before last is still going
strong, but now I'm looking at it saying...already carved for a stroker...hmmm.
I'd like to 'drop' in an 84 crank and was wondering what else I'd have to change. Seems to me
the only parts would be the crank and stroker 94 PCs. It's got a Web 122/125 cam already.
Is that workable as far as parts? I know I'd probably want to eventually go bigger than
the 40x35 valves and also upgrade from the 40 to at least 44 Webers, but not necessary for now.
The main question is will the Web 122/125 work ok? Right now the engine (according to your
advert when I bought it) is 10:1 dynamic.
