Hi Marty,
Nice you show interest!
The heads really look almost exactly like stock heads, but than with wbx stud spacing and twin spark !
What do you want to know?
Mind you, I haven't got one in my hands yet, but have made connections for a used set. I did have to gain up on my german language skills tho..
Regards,
Walter

Aircooled WBX heads available?
Hello Walter.
I'm very much interested in the aircooled Limbach cyl. heads with WBX stud spacing. Who did you contact in Germany? Can you also find other Limbach engine parts? I'm planning to do an oxy conv. based on a 2.1 ltr. WBX engine for a friend. I don't want to relocate the headstuds, so using those heads would be cool. Two years ago I used a 76 stroke WBX crank in a CT engine case (the vanagon pancake type 1 engine with spin on oilfilter and type 4 lifters) That conv. did cause alot of headache and I don't think that I want to go through all that kind of trouble again (except for use in a type 3 car, then it would be the ultimate mild engine conv. for up to 2 liters displacement). I want to keep everything bolt on and avoid machining whenever possible, so the Limbach parts are the best choice for the oxy. I guess.
(I'm also interested in the 78.4 stroke -Porsche rod journal size- Limbach crank for the type 1 case and the 90 mm bore limbach nicasil p&c 's ) I hope you can find a good source for the Limbach engine parts.
Thanks and good luck.
P.S:I'm the guy with the pre -67 bug -all aluminium bumper- production. After contacting you I visited Volsrepairs in NL. That was when I was in Utrecht 2 months ago. Maybe you remember me.

Yes, we e-mailed. Hi!Street1303 wrote:Hello Walter.

Marty,
I haven't got one in my hands yet, so of course I haven't been able to take a pic either.
There are pics in a well known german tuning book tho: Tuning Handbuch II written by Theo Decker, one of the first beetle tuning shop owners in Germany (from the seventies), TDE. I think you should still be able to order the book.
There are pictures there of raw castings and machined heads. Limbach themselves will probably have the molds for those heads.
I will try to scan the page from that book next week for all the non-believers.
BTW, 97mm is possible, never heard more has been used on an wbx engine with the stock wbx stud spacing.
Greetings,
Walter

Ok, a friend of mine scanned this page from the book I mentioned.
The pictured heads on the left are the raw unmashined castings, the right pictures are the machined heads.
Scanning quality is not always the best, but I hope you can at least see the twin spark arrangement in these heads, sort of proving they are meant for aircraft use, where twin spark plugs are a demand for flying (thanks for the info Richie).
I strongly believe that Limbach (still?) has the castings and makes these.
As promised:

Greetings,
Walter

Those look Neat !
-But.... Limbache Quoted me...
$1,260.00 Per Head... $2,520.00 / Pair
$503.00 Per Cylinder... $2,012.00 / Set
$285.00 Per Piston.... $1,140.00 / set
$20.00 Packing
$5,692.00 Total
About a three week lead time wait / with full payment in advance.
Then there is the Freight charges to the U.S.
These Quotes were in Euros... I'm not shure exactly how much the ex-change difference is in U.S. Dollars.
I'm pretty shure there is a small % discount to out- of- the- Country Customers.. *I think* it has something to do with the taxes over there?
Could someone translate these charges to U.S. Dollars Please?
The Heads look Really good, I'm shure the Cylinders are nice too.

I think my wallet just had a seizure.
They look to be std wasser heads with the block passages welded up, and redone with 2x 10mm plugs.
The jugs might be competitive for some apps, very heavy finnage.

Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

No, they are taken from a Type I Pattern...
I saw some Moffoco heads, with the same coniguration for the addition of dual plugs... Aircraft use with Moffoco Heads
Maybe I should go into Life Insurance Sales.
I've been running the Mozilla Firebird... Works Good, Thanks Piledriver!
I'm needing 3 more cases to convert to Type I studs.... If anyone wants to get in on the next "run" of ten conversions.

Mofoco...Heads...in...an...aircraft.... (bangs head)
Kinda hard to believe a 97 bore in T1 stud spacings...
I might buy the aircooled heads being taken off T1 castings, but the wasser heads look like wasser heads down to the flanges, chamber shape... And corrosion darkening from being on a wasser block.
Those aren't pics of what they make, or all the water would leak out the open ports where the wasser case should be.
They wasser heads also look to have single plugs---They're just representative shots of std VW parts.
Both plugs go side bu side in the usual location on the aircraft heads I saw on their website, on motors.
If you are looking for a nice mail client, mozilla mail works very nicely... It's not Lookout, but OTOH, its not outlook.

The picture in the upper left page IS a stock watercooled head. It belongs to a chapter explaining the waterboxer. I thought that would be obvious. That is Not a page from a Limbach catalog!
Its just that nobody here believed before that aircooled heads with wbx stud spacing existed.

Walter
