What to buy???To finish my motor

Post by auslander »

Got the short block assembled on my 1641 this weekend and need some info on some parts I need. Its got a forged cw crank, engle 120 with straight cuts, 009, stock 040 heads w 40x35, stinger exhaust system, and dulal kadrons. When I built the long block I found out that my oil pump will not work because I have a flat cam. I need a high volume pump that will not get chewed up by the cam bolts, who sells one without it needing to be worked. I put single performance springs on my heads and was told by mechanic that the stock pushrods would not hold out. Should I go with steel pushrods or chromoly? Thanks

Why do you think you need a high volume pump? A stock pump that's in good shape should push all the oil your engine ever needs (the rule of thumb is approximately 10psi per 1000RPM). Usually the critical point is low pressure at hot-idle, and due to sloppy internal tolerances that's more common with some "high-volume" pumps than it is with a stocker. What case did you use? If it's a single-relief small-passage, get the 311 115 107HD pump; if dual-relief large-passage, the 111 115 107AK should be sufficient.
Stock pushrods might hold up but I wouldn't count on it. All you need is something a little better than stock; nice HD aluminum ones like aircooled.net sells would be deluxe and offer quieter running, but cheapo steel ones would be good enough.
