Automatic or Manual

Post by Kerian »

Which do you like better and why? I've got both tranny's at the moment i've got the auto in the bus but i've been considering putting the manual in.

Why did you want to switch ?

Personally, I had great luck with my auto tranny, I now have a different bus with a manual and it's six of one, half dozen of the other. The auto tranny was abused beyond belief, black fluid in it, I emptied it, but in Mobil 1 tranny fluid and put another 50,000 miles of her, then scrapped the bus because of rust.

The transfer over to manual probably won't be that easy and personally, I'd rather spend that time on something else in the van that may need doing .... You won't notice a whole big difference in performance ... although my auto seemed a little sluggish up hill until the kickdown solenoid kicks in ....

I was just wondering about the different points people had about the two tranny's.

Have heard it is an absolutely nightmare to convert an auto bus to a clutch, researched it and yeah it's a mammoth size of work. Have also never heard anyone say that they don't like the auto, and most say they really enjoy the auto.

my 75 was converted to manual by the po and I am not sure about the clutch cable set up and some of the other stuff. Does anyone know where I can get some info on the conversion to see if it was done correctly?????
