Rust Blotches

Post by metropoj »

Underneath the paint on my camper are a number of rust blotches. These were quickly painted over a few years ago and still show ( just to protect them from becoming holes. Once the paint is removed and the metal is sanded these spots are still rough. What should I do with these spots before painting or primering over ?

First, sand and wire brush them until they're clean, bare steel - anything less, and they'll just come back through. Assuming they haven't rusted through, level them out with a good-quality, non-talc-based filler.

Prime, sand, prime, sand, paint.

JC, out of curiosity, what's the reason for the non-talc?
