frame Head bottom plat replacement

Post by russell »

I need to replace part or all of the frame head bottom plate on my 1200 1970 beetle - part of it is badly rusted. Any tips/guides? Is it ok to cut out the rusted part and replace or better the whole? Can it be cut/ground off, Does it need any set up, does it weld to the cross beam etc
Thanks.

Frame head bottom plate replacement

You're right - it is a great site and I spent some time looking around. I take my hat off to folks who undertake this tpye of rebuild and then put in the extra effort to record it all for posterity and share it to help people like me. I didn't find anything about replacing the bottom plate of the frame head, although I did find lots of other good advice that I will need - maybe I missed it but does anyone have any pointers on how to go about it?
