t-boned passenger side needs help

Post by kenfyoozed »

ok so an old lady t-boned my 74 beetle. i need to replace the entire passenger side from the door back. from the window up its ok but will probably need to br replaced also. my fender is aslo trashed. approx, how much would it cost me to hae this pnnel cut ot and a new one installed? no paint work only body welding?

my frame is not bent and pans ok. i do have a 71 sb. could cut the sie off of it and weld it in pace of my std 74. will thsese parts be interchangeable?

i will have to get someoneto do this but whats a good ball park idea of what want?

everything else is good on the car. im trying to save it.

thanks

Neil, the rear quarter will interchange, not sure what they would charge.Call around and get some prices, maybe you can remove the donner quarter to cut down on the cost.Don't cut on the damage cause the person fixing it will want to cut it where they feel most comfortable welding. If you decide to cut out donner panel it needs to be way oversized so whoever fixes it will be able to cut where he feels best....Donald

easily your looking at about a 800-1000 bucks to replace a quarter panel and prime . assuming there is no rust to contend with. how is the rear apron ? if you want to save money remove all the interior stuff on that side of the car. i would remove everything but the drivers seat. did the hag have insurance? and be ready for lots of shops to turn you away. just a fact of life with an older car.

she did infact have insurance, bu it sucks. its been three weeks and nothing yet. i had to get a lawyer so im sre its going to be a while. they only want to pay me 1050 for my car when it was easily worth 16-2000. so the battle begins.

i know my caisprobally gone, but im just trying to salvage what i can.

not a bad offer from the ins company if they are not totaling the car in which case you will have a salvage title 0 resale. you could likely get it fixed for that. there is an article in last months hot vws on classic car insurance and the importance of actual cash valuation. talk toyour insurer this will cover these problem sin the future. ins company is basing your sum on market value rather than what it would cost to replace the vehicle to its preaccident state. it involves getting an apraisal but is worht the hassle in the event of granny gums takes a drive. hope it works out where do you live

i could probably get the body work done for 1000 but i also need a new tranny as mine is now in two pieces. so well see. i go to the laywer tommorrow.the market value is way low for my car in this area. theysay its worth 1050. bt you cant even get a running bug fr that around here. they also didnot take into accoun that mine is a standard beetle not a super. which it is hard to find a 74 std. and thats what i want. so the batlle rages on.

Sorry to hear about your wreck. At least you don't have any medical issues to deal with.

You mentioned about the differenec in values between a std and a super. The Super actually has a higher book value than a standard by a few hundred dollars acording to NADA.

Here's waht I came up from NADA on line

1974 Standard

Low Retail $1,725.00 Avg Retail $3,000.00

1974 Super Beetle

Low Retail $2,650.00 Avg Retail $3,950.00

The Super's originally sold more more then the standard.

I'd try to get extrra cash from the insurance company.
