Suggestions needed

Post by DieselDr78 »

Okay, now that I have called the police and finally have gotten done MF it all through the house, I need some suggestions.

Last year I made a speaker box to hold four 6 X 9 four way Pioneer speakers and the amp was attached at the side....last night someone sneaked into my beloved Thing, cut the wires, and snatch the box out of the back......GRRRRRRRRRRRRR! Low bred @#$% stealing someone tunes has to be the worse. I am lucky they did not damage the top or any other part of the car, but I sure do need some ideas on how to prevent this from happening again. I will rebuild the box and get my tunes back!

And if anyone is intereted I have a 10 year old home it is yours if you take up the notes cause I want the heck out of MEMPHIS! <EG>

Don't keep a stereo in the car is one way to prevent theft.

Once they know it's there they will keep coming back.

One neighbor of mine had his stereo stolen three times out of his convertible Camero. they slashed his top twice to gain access to the rear speakers and ripped one set apart because he bolted them to the floor.

My bug has a stereo but it is hidden under the dash and you cannot see the speakers.

See if you could hook up some sort of alarm or take the speakers out when you park overnight. A car cover sometimes deters theft.

Good luck.

I have an old SONY stereo right up on the dash. I don't lock the doors, I don't have super big speakers hangin' out for any one to see. If some one wants your stuff they will take it. I just have stuff nobody else wants. The old SONY pumps out enought sound to drown out the engine if needed.

I had an old cassette player stolen years ago. It didn't even work and a few cassettes were taken and a blanket.

Some folks just look around for any unlocked vehicles and sell the stuff to fund their personal drug habits.

Too bad they don't have super glue that stays tacky enough for a 24 hour time frame.

This way you would see someone walking around with a Thing door attached to their hand.

You`ve been livin on the wrong side of Memphis.
Some people put their stereo in the center section of the dash where it will not be detected. When they need to hide it they just swing that panel up and presto a stock dash.
I once lived in a bad neighborhood(OK so it was more than a few ) where stereos were short lived. The theives had an MO that was like this. Break window out and wait a few nights then return and access interior through broken window.
When my window was broken I took out my very large 357 Magnum revolver and traced its outline on the patch piece I selected. It appeared even more intimidating by the time it was put into outline form and by the detail there was no doubt that in fact a very real weapon was involved. Needless to say they never made their second pass at my Westy after that. Good luck. Bob Ingman

Ain't nothin good about Memphis, TN

Post by DieselDr78 »

Bob you just don't know the half of it...There is NO good side of town in Memphis. And thinking about there isn't a durn thing good about or in Memphis! <EG>

I have just had the week from hell without good speakers...I have some 3 X 5 from the Thing shop, but without the 6 X 9 four ways the tunes are really bad! I have racked my brain trying to design a speaker box that can be bolted to the gun rack bracket in the back. The only thing my son has come up with is a latch and a good lock! I really don't want to drill any holes into this wonderful car! I just wish I could figure a way to use the gun rack bracket to mount the speaker box.

Yes, I am sure they will try and come back for the JVC stereo, but gonna be kinda hard for them to use without the face plate. I do have it mounted in the dash in the glovebox cover I got from The Thing shop. I never had it painted so the stereo blends into the dash once the face plate is removed.

Thanks guys for all your suggestions.
