Welcome.
Glad to here from someone overseas. I'm starting to feel like I'm living in the British Isles. It's been raining every other day for a couple of months. I'd be really happy to see the sun for at least an hour !!
What year is your Type 181's?

Hi, the oldest one is the first type with reduce boxes, if I check the ID nummer it must be from august 1971, the greene one in military trim must be from october 1974 or older.

There is clear difference between the cars, for example the steering is different, they also drive different, strange enough the oldest one drive prettier than the newer one.

By the way, it's getting sunny this weekend, we gone a have a BBQ and the tops goes down a the Kubel, what kind of Car do you have ??

182s

Hi Chris181:
Do you know how many 182s were ever produced?
I own one 1976 and I would like to know more about them.
I have a 1971 made in november 1970 from a CKD kit from Germany and built in Mexico.
Also a 1974 Acapulco (in process), and the Last Safari. A certified by vw car being the last car assambled in the last factory in the world. May 15, 1980.
I am very interested in information from Europe but I don´t speak German. Do you have information about special production cars in Germany?
Please keep in touch.

Hi Lastsafari,

If I am right, if you mention type 182 you mean The Thing ? I shall take a look for the production numbers, I think I can find it somewhere.

In the USA are driving much more younger Kübels than in Europe, most of the Kübels we are driving are ex-army vehicles, there has been sold some Kübels in a civilian outfit but they where very expansive in that days if you compare them with other ( more pratical) cars. so they are very hard to find.

I am always wondering about the high prices in the USA that asked for the Things, they are much higher than in Europe, but I think they are in better condition ( in the warm parts of youre country ) than in our rainy regions.

Give me some time and I shall take a look for the productionnumber.

If it is possible maybe you can sent me a picture of your cars.

Greeting from Chris

Chris-181:
By 182 I mean a Right Wheel Drive car. I know many were exported to England, Australia, South Africa, an the rest of Africa with such feature.
Some were built in Mexico, but I don´t know how many were built in Germany with RWD type 182
