I need some info about Subaru Impreza turbo in a bug (218HP)

are there any information for this swap availlable in the net (besides the page of ricola.co.uk) especially for a bug (take a look at my bug at: www.bugbrakes.de - 'the 1303') - some pics and specifications would be fine! - greets from germany, Patrick

I was researching this for a while...

THe more common one to be swapped is the 2.0l turbo... known as the ej20t.

You will need an adaptor plate to fit the eng to the trans, as well as fabricate some kind of subframe to hold the top engine mounts...

The best way to get a good motor is by purchasing a half cut from a junkyard (front half of a car usally including engine dash and trans, they come from cars that were totalled from rear damage) and that will give you everything you need for the most part.

There aren't any 'top' engine mounts on the Subaru EJ engines, the two rubber mounts are positioned close to the bellhousing on each side underneath...

looks very nice - but another wish of mine is not to cut away the rear part of my bug - how wide is the engine between the cylinder heads Richard? - I know that I have to use an adaptor plate but I'm going to use a Porsche 914 gearbox - so the flywheel will be another Problem (that should be solved by the the one who fabricates the Adaptor I think)
whats the difference between the EJ20 and the 218hp Impreza engine? - ist the EJ20 not 16V? - and what will a complete engine/half cut cost? greets from germany, Patrick - www.bugbrakes.de

I am pretty sure the ej20t is the 218 hp eng you are referring to (older model, newer one has a bit more)... and it is 16v... it has 4 cams, each cam operates 4 valves

Sorry, I haven't measured the width of the engine, but people have and that information is on the web somewhere, maybe on Baja Wes' site

EJ18: 1.8l NA engine
EJ20: 2l NA engine
EJ20T: 2l turbo engine
EJ22: 2.2l NA engine
EJ33: 3.3l flat 6 NA engine
Sorry, not sure how they differentiate between 8v and 16V variants

The earlier series were known as EA...

There is an EJ20 Twin Turbo... I have seen a few around, but I don't know if the name is any different than the regualar ej20t... maybe ej20tt... lol

I have just bolted an EJ20TT onto my bug. The engine is 32 inches wide. The body is off mine so I don't know how much I will have to move the inner fenders out to clear. I hope to install the body next week-end.
