Tire Sizing

Would someone on here please enlighten me with your wisdom. As mentioned before, i have a 74 now lowered Thing. I have purchased American Eagle polished 5-spokes for it and am looking for the rigth tire size. Here's the question, what is the difference between a 205 50 r15 and a 195 60 r15. I know that the R15 is the rim being 15" diagnoly, but what is the first 2 sets of numbers. I think the 205 is a taller tire. My car has a rake to it so the rear end will have a slightly taller tire in the back as the front. I'm thinking like a 205 in the rear and a 195 up front. How much taller is the 205 than the 195 (in english please). Thanks for all ya'lls help.

tire measuring goes like this:
205 50 R 15 = 205 milimiters widh; hight is 50% of widh; R is rated for 140 km/h-87 milles/h; 15" rim.
195 60 R 15 = 195 milimiters widh; hight is 60% of widh; R= 87 milles/h; 15" rim.
205 50 R15= 8"3/16X4"3/32X15
195 60 R15= 7"13/16X4"5/8X15

Houndoggy what I like to do in this sace is go th www.tirerack.com and use their charts. Every tire manufacturer and series is different. You need to look at the charts for the specific tire to find exact dimensions. Good luck. Bob Ingman

Its me again> I just put American Eagle 5 lug 15 inch polished "empi" wheels on my 73. I love them. I put 185 65 X15 Winstar (a cheap tire) tires and the diameter is almost exactly the diameter of the OEM 14 in tire. The wheels are true,round and drive great. No shimmy. I wrote a short how-to for the 181 registry on converting my wheels that should be in the next issue. www.type181registry.com. Bill
