HD Tie Rods and Ends

Offroad VW based vehicles have problems/insights all their own. Not to mention the knowledge gained in VW durability.

We used to use Ford ends and build our own tierods. The LH thread tap and the tapered ream to open up the holes weren't cheap - it'd be hard to justify the cost for one car but maybe you could find a few folks to go in on them with you.

Truck tie rods are used by the offroad racers. Ford and International are the most popular.

Crash, do you have any pictures of what Heim joints ("lollypops" in aviation speak Image)look like on a converted front end to illustrate your suggestion? I couldn't find any on your site....

I just recieved my box of twenty rod ends today and am going to start laying out my a-arm front end for my new baja chassis. There will be plenty of pics soon.

Why not convert to Heim joints and build new tie rods. We can do that when we lift and widen the front, make the longer trailing arms, and install the rack and pinion power steering.

Chirco sells all kinds of Ford and International Tie rod ends and other HD parts. They tell me you have to ream the spindle and pitman. I am tyring to find out how weak this will make those parts. I called aguy who is on a Baja race team and hea agrees with earlier comment in this thread that Ford and Int tie rods are standard. K-mann

Oh so luckey with the "power" rack. Image
I am stuck with the "arm strong" steering, only because of the injection is in the way of the traditional way, but I am looking into other way's to get this done as my car is mostly set up for it now, just need the hard part's. Image
