Cam Duration and Lift

Post by KGMAN »

I bought a longblock from a guy (2016cc Stroker) but he cant remember what size cam he used as it was built 3 years ago. He "thinks" its a bugpack 110 ?? I Need to know how to determine cam lift and duration. Hopefully someone knows how this is done..
I plan on using the CB FI Kit and need to know the cam specs so they can provide the correct injector size.
Thanks for your input on this

the 110 cam is made by engle your cam may be a copy, short of spliting the case you would have to make a dummy push rod and hook up a measuring device, to much lift for a dial indiacator a set of calipers? and record the lift at the cam and the duration, sorry no simple way.

Normally there is an ID code stamped in the end of the cam, which is visable when the oil pump is removed. Might be a simple solution. Good Luck.

There's more to grinding a cam than just the blank you start with. How it's ground and heat treatment, lobe profile, and the lifters' characteristics all matter too, so it's quite feasible that there can be different results even though the same casting is used by all. One of the biggest factors is breakin procedure and valvespring selection, too, so if the guys who like Webs are the same guys who do this part right, of course they'll last longer.
Some people can break a crowbar in a sandbox.

If you've ever degres in numerous Web and Engle cams, you'll see that all cams are not created equal. It's not at all uncommon for Engle to be off by 4-5 degrees, I've never seen a web off by more then 1/2 degree from the card.

What does this tell you about attention to detail?
