Aftermarket fuel injectors

Post by pokefat »

I plan to rebuild my 914 engine with 102 Nickies
So the question is... what would you folks recommend as an excellent aftermarket FI for a 74 914 (2.0 FI)? Or will the stock one handle it?

Thanks for the input

Unless you're going to a high duration/lift/overlap cam at the same time you're going to 102's, why switch? D-Jet can handle displacement increases up to 2.4 L pretty easily, either by increasing fuel pressure, adding CHT ballast, adjusting the MPS mixture screw (inner), or a combination of these adjustments. Considering that you'll be starting from scratch with the configuration tables for an aftermarket system, along with the headaches of installation, you'll be up and running quicker with D-Jet. And if you aren't doing the cam, from dyno tests others have done, going from D-Jet to aftermarket FI produces little to no improvement in peak power or torque.

Not sure on the other mods yet? still trying to get a feel for what needs to be done. I am trying to massage as much power out of the 914?s engine without it ending up as a one lap wonder. It appears at the moment this might only be possible with a ?Nickie? kit, due to their ability to dissipate heat quickly. So one may argue that if I am going to drop the $$$$ on the Nickies, might as well go all the way.

I will definitely consider your advice when contemplating the additional mods, aftermarket FI?s are not cheap.

Thanks

Pokefat...I agree with Brad. The D-jet has enough adjustment capacity to handle what you are building. It is also more tunable than L-jet. You probably already own it too....thats a plus! Ray

Listen to these guys, they know what they are talking about. They have both have extensive D-jet knowledge. I wish I knew these guys 6 years ago ;^)

The D-jet can be modified to work in your application. If for some reason it can't keep up, then spend your money on another type of aftermarket fuel injection.

Bottom line, don't fix it until it's broken.
