The KA24DE engine is a big engine, it might stick out the back a little. I have always liked the nissan engines, but unless you have the engine already, I would suggest the SR20DE engine out of a sentre SE-R or Nx-2000. It is a much smaller engine dimensionally and it has an aluminum block which is much ligher than the Iron block KA engine.
I am going to be putting a SR20DET engine into my next bug (rotary powered right now) because the aftermarket for this engine is huge! plus that engine will handle 400hp on stock internals! (yes 400hp!)
Here is a link proving it.

good luck

Already have it in my 1996 altima with a bad trans and body, kennedy engineering say they make an adapter for the L series engine.I dont know if the 2.4 is L.However,I was thinking that since they make an adapter for the sr20de, won't a silvia sr20det bolt directly in a American 240sx equiped with a 2.4?Any help would be greatly appreciated Thanks

This is a little unrelated but, I used to drive a Nissan truck. It had the 2.4 in it and it was a running *** motor. I broke a few trannys, and smoked several clutches, and power shifted to over 7000. I could never break that motor. It'll be a good swap if you can fit it.

Yes, the US spec sr20de engine is identical to the japanese spec sr20det, with the exception of the turbo. I'de say go for it.

Opps, just reread the question. The 2.0L (sr20de(t)) and the 2.4L (ka24de) are different engines. They will not bolt up to the same adapter. When people put Silvia engines in there 240s, they swap trannies as well.

zenjoe, are you using a Nissan tranny with the SR20DET or are you using the VW box with an adapter? I'm interested in the SR20DET as well. I've even considered the QR25DE that powers my Spec V.

I actually have not started on that project yet, but I will be using a vw trans and a kennedy adapter. If I was considering a mid-engine conversion, I still would not use a nissan tranny, If you have reaserched the strength of a nissan tranny from a FWD car, you will find out that they don't hold up really well (case cracks, syncros, etc.) you can probably build up a vw tranny STRONGER than a nissan one, plus its less work.
The QR25de is a nice engine, and its easy to make power with that engine. you can get 10hp by just removing the balance shafts with no effect on reliability and Jim Wolf sells the peices for $130! That would be a killer beetle engine. I have heard that they don't handle a lot of boost (if you decide to go that route) so keep that in mind. I think a sr20det is cheaper if you decide to buy one, and they are bulletproof.

Even in stock form, the QR25DE has plenty of torque for my 2700lb Sentra (~145FWHP). It would be more than plenty in my Beetle. On top of that, it has a very wide torque band. A few things keeping me from committing to the QR:
1) No Kennedy QR adapter.
2) Might be too large (maybe larger than the KA24DE)
3) Not enough wrecked Spec Vs yet.
So for now, the SR20DET will have to do. Just have to steer clear of the DET'ed 240SXs.

BTW, considering the weight of the SR, do you have to add support in the engine bay?

I would definitely add a support to tie the engine to the body. I had massive wheel-hop (frame horn flex) with my rotary befor I added the support. And the rotary is lighter.
