Where did the wire brake at? Can you solder on a butt connector?

This is why I don't like sparkplug-mounted head temp senders (one reason, anyway). You might be able to patch it back together, soldering would be more likely to succeed than a butt-splice, and if the gauge readings seem familiar it worked, but it'll be even more likely to break the next time you come near that plug. Nothing much to lose at this point by trying, eh?

I believe some you need to drill and tap the head?

you can buy a new sender unit for a few bucks, or try with small cutters to open up the lug crimp and recrimp it, they are a pain and I have trimmed my tin so that there was more clearance for the wire.
