Sealing an engine case?

Has anybody tried Permatex Hylomar? My local VW guy told me to use it if I didn't like Gasgacinch. Here's the link to the description http://www.permatex.com/auto/autouh.asp ... m_no=25249

Dirko is the ticket,it is a german silicone, I've used all that has been mentioned here,I have built 400 plus engines, from stock to big bore,I also used it on my case halves of my 200HP Kawasaki Drag bike(8.69 E.T 150.00mph) with no oil leaks what's so ever. I buy it from a supplier for my shop, I don't know where else to get it, If your looking for some or anybody, call Competition Imports,805 522-1303 and ask for Rick, this sealer is a must to have for a VW owner who does his own work.

I've used Permatex 3H aviation sealant (no big deal, only about 7 engines so far), but most of my engines still leak despite being careful about cleaning the case parting surfaces. Ugh. Next will try Hylomar. BMW dealers can get it under p/n 81 22 9 400 339. The tube (about size of medium toothpaste) costs about $15 MSRP. It comes right from Germany with German print on the box. It may indeed be the same stuff/formulation inside as the Permatex Hylomar.
