Choosing a 78mm crank...

I run a cb 78 forged crank. it is good quality. the reason i went with the 78 is for price. i used rimco's vw rods with the chevy rod bolt and they work fine($80 i believe). i was a little leary using a vw rod on a 82 stroke, i would have needed the big $$$ aftermarket rods(carillo,etc) to feel safe. jmo.

We ran a 78mm Berg crank in our race engine with good results. We then removed the 78 mm and replaced with Oz made 75.5 unit and made much more power, the 78 still sits , hardly used, in the box.

the 75.5 made more power? must have been mostly top end power. i always thought taht increacing displacement doesn't build most of the extra power it just puts it at a drivable RPM and builds torque.

ive herd that 2276s work real well(82x94) even on the street if you dont go gonzo with the cam(duration in the 290s instead of the 300s) and with decent heads will provide an engine that can run 13s without the need for a close ratio gearbox(ive herd 78 stroke engines need CR gearboxes to break out of the 14s)

Not true. My 69mm stoke engine got out of the 14's on a stock box.

That was at Santa Pod where the track is slightly up hill.

Our 78x90.5 48 IDA 311cam engine in 75 model
full wieght bug with std 1.3 swing axle box ran 13.1 secs 103mph at Eastern Creek Sydney Australia.
Shift point at around 6800rpm.
