Top mount intercooler.

With Turbo and Super charging you can create massive horsepower with vw motors.

I also feel like none of the rear mounted intercoolers are ideal in terms of there air flow, and part of their benefit just comes from their thermal mass that absorbs the heat when on boost, and then (slowly) sheds it with the air flow it does get over the remaining time.
That is exactly how I see this as well!

The idea is to not change the tune and dyno this dual core intercooler ‘as is’ with the same boost and timing. I feel the complicated intake tract might have been a restriction.
I’ll you know the outcome.

While maybe not ideal you should see some definite temp drops.
You can use W/I for up to 100 degrees of cooling and let the intercooler do the rest.
My little intercooler drops the air temps anywhere from 40 to 60 degrees which along with W/I gives me almost ambient boosted air temps at 22 plus lbs. boost.

Hey Art, that is very reassuring to hear you say that!

Its been a while since I played with my W/I set-up. The new intercooler lay-out obviously now needed twin injection points as there is no central ‘plenum’ as such anymore. But what size should the twin nozzles be?
I didn’t feel like digging up what the calculations were for nozzle sizing, flow charts and ‘ideal’ gasoline-W/I ratio’s. So I asked AI: within 2 seconds I got the answer with logical and recognisable (to me) steps how it calculated this!
So, I now use a little more W/I (on the upper side of the ideal range), which is exactly what I think this set-up needs 😃

I use a two stage setup with a 1.0 gph nozzle opening at 4 lbs boost and a second nozzle at 2.0 gph turning on at 9 lbs. boost.

This setup works well for me considering the type of driving I do. The dual nozzle setup was installed before the intercooler and it worked so well I left it.
I typically go over 4000 miles on a one gallon tank of 50/50 distilled water/Denatured Alcohol. This is in normal driving not beating on it.
The 1.0 gph nozzle is installed just above the TB and the 2.0 gph nozzle is installed right in the tee of the intake below the TB.
I'm a little fat on nozzle size but it works well as is with no blubbering. If I was racing every day I would probably fine tune it a bit more but as is there is no need.

It's nice to see some conversation happening over here again! These are some nice setups, it still boggles my mind how well the rear mounted, a/a intercoolers seem to work on the rear engine cars. But I suppose it's hard to ignore the data you guys are seeing. Keep up the great work!

Cheers Chip! We keep tinkering hey 😀

Sort of finished the install. I am super curieus of this all works at all, but I did some small other upgrades as well. Like routing the cold air intake downwards almost near the driveshafts 😊
