This thing looks like the solution to all my problems! Been struggling with a janky in-tank setup for years, to just mount this in a wheel well would solve all my problems. And so cheap!

Question - what are the dimensions of this assembly? I contemplated the "swirl pot" modules on eBay for this purpose (basically the same idea but larger, aluminum, AN fittings, very pricey), but they were too big for me to mount anywhere suitable on my '73 Super. Found a pop-tart box (or two taped together) with the same dimensions as those and couldn't fit them anywhere suitable. Would be nice to have some (to the nearest centimeter or so) dimensions so I can make a CAD (cardboard aided design) mockup to see where I can fit it in the car before buying one.

There is a couple of VW part numbers (BAA919051C as quoted in the pierburg data sheet & another).

The metal pump body inside the plastic housing is 43mm diameter. So you can roughly infer the overall dimensions from that.

I found a Walbro 5bar pump with a 43mm OD that in theory would fit the housing. It doesn’t have a ridge like the original so a plastic collar might be needed to lock it in place. That would be a way to upgrade the setup to work with a turbo

On the left side of the framehead. But it’s a tight fit next to the master cylinder. Actually the photo might be reversed since it seems to be the passenger side & the long steering arm / steering damper side.

I ended with a simpler location & put the pump along with the filter/pressure regulator, in the front spare wheel area.

Went ahead and ordered one of these pumps - nice and small, should be easy to mount. I'm thinking of making a 3D printed mount and installing it on my Super's frame head, in the corner of the footwell firewall and tunnel.

Took these photos and marked them up for anyone wanting the (not super precise) dimensions of it so they can have a better sense if it would fit in your build. It also weighs 700 grams empty, feels heavier than would be expected by looking at it - overall feels very durable and well made.

Adding one more photo. This shows how the inner baffle & pre filter fit (uses the ridge on the pump body to locate it) and how that plastic piece supports the upper O-ring seal.

These parts are slid together so it would be possible to swap to pump for alternatives, if you match the 43mm OD & secure the O-ring similarly.

Bumping to subscribe, I picked one of these up ages ago as it looked like a nicer pump/sump combo to retrofit vs. the unobtanium Mk1 Golf sump.

If the pump proves to be lame...
...One can get nice, cheap "Mercedes" screw type pumps that flow like mad at >>100PSi... and do not suffer from cavitation like roller cell pumps.
Self priming even.
(From my limited testing on a CIS-E modded Mk1 Cabriolet they bury real -044 Bosch pumps)
They tend to be a bit long and skinny but that can typically be dealt with much more easily than the opposite.
