Type 1 vs. Type 4
Dan,
Your tone says it all. All you have done is bash them - yet you don't even own one?? Whats up with that??
Regardless, you can put all of this to rest by merely taking up Jake on his challenge.
I restate - if your motor outlasts his motor on a engine stand running 6,000 rpm for an EXTENDED amount of time - you win - case closed! The proof will be right there for us all to see.
Are you up for the challenge??
Personally my money's on the Type 4 !!!

Type 1 vs. Type 4
Quick question -
Dan/Daryll - why have neither of you taken up Jakes challenge.
Step up boys and let's see what happens!!
Lets call it the "Ultimate Fighting Championship" of the aircooled world!!! Type 1 vs. Type 4.
We all want to know since this has become such a nasty and hot debated topic.

Type 1 vs. Type 4
Dan, I do have my facts straight cuz I Didn't quote Gene nor try to quote him. I don't throw the Berg bible around and preach from it, but I do recommend people read it and form their own opinions. I just told of my experience dropping the underhood temp 20 degrees F (proven by the Haltech sensors) when I opened the bottom of my deck lid. That IS all I related, MY experience, PERIOD. You went on to say how the top was better and all should be using the top open method and on and on , but I came back with the fact that not all people live in the eternal summer weather of So Cal. I live where it rains and rain in an engine compartment sucks, especially around electronics (Plus the fact that it seems to scoop more cigarette butts
) That was all that I said. You slammed the world for going against your beliefs and that was when you slammed my car. And I could drag a couple of others into your rant here that do remember that posting, but they would laugh at you now like they did then. Sorry, but I do have my facts straight.

but i never made a comment regarding your car and whether or not it was a true cal look vehicle... you have me totally mixed up with someone else... further,
i'll take your berg fuel injection any day.
i'm into performance, period;............... i am not qualified to comment on the details of the california look, and i'm sure not gonna criticize people about it.
please get your facts straight.

oh really? you keep claiming a mortal injury here, tom notch, but yet you can't recall exactly what was supposed to have been said in the slam itself.
you did relate parts of your conversation correctly; where you screwed up was by not mentioning that gene was completely mis-quoted in the same thread, and that i corrected that... hence your confusion over who got slammed for what, and what was actually said.
i can emphatically state that you are lying when you claim that i seriously slammed your silly car for not meeting someone's idea of cal-look.
get a grip on reality.

Type 1 vs. Type 4
Darryl,
With a name like that, I'd of thought you were from Ga also - LOL. As for me taking on Jake - WHY???? I'm a type 4 guy all the way. My 62 Beetle with a Type 4 screams down the highway just fine for moi. Nothing like running 80 MPH constant for 2+ hours and the cyl head temp never gets above 325, oil temp never gets above 200 and oil pressure is a constant 55-60 PSI - all of this on a sunny 90+ degree day. Sorry to put you in the same catagory w/Dan. My bad.
As for you Dan - I guess you still don't get it.
YOU may not of verbatim said "type 4's are crappy", but you sure as hell haven't said anything good about them. You are into Type 1's - thats cool, we all can respect that. Some others of us are into type 4's - the problem I have with your comments is they are ALL heresay - you don't own a type 4 so you don't have the ability to validate all that you say. I am cool with you and your type 1 knowledge - but what I have a problem with is that because someone told you something you are TRYING to come across as a type 4 expert (which I'm sure we both will agree that you are not). What's wrong with doing something different. Why try to crucify those of us that choose to do so.
I'm out of this discussion - I'm sure you will make some snide comment about it but I am tired of you and your glee at getting everyone riled up. I definetly think that was your goal in the past thread (that was deleted) and now this one.

Actually it's almost time to close this "conversation" It's amazing that such heated debates over things so trivial keep coming up on this forum. I would like to think being a vw person and being around like minded people would bring out the best in a person. Not the kind of slanderous/disrespectful comments that seem to keep coming out of here.
If you have nothing nice to say, don't say it at all. Yes speak your mind but keep in mind that not everyone will agree with you and that is fine. That's what makes forums great, multiple views, not the arrogent crap that seems to surround this forum.
