Re: SOLD - 1600 TURBO + oval + downunder
Alright. So it's taken me long enough, but look what came in the mail yesterday...
This is a big deal. I've been wanting to go turbo ever since I bought the car, but it's only just now that I do so. This is also in the mail.

AU$175 for this bad boy Chinabay turbo. Just need oil and exhaust hookups. Everything else in the car is ready for it. Fuel. MS2. Trans and diff. I do want to work out some sort of intercooler. It'll be blowing into a pretty tired engine, but I've got another one in the wings.

Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

Re: SOLD - 1600 TURBO + oval + downunder
There are a few people who've put VG30s in, but not with turbos. Sadly, we live in a Nanny state here. I talked to one guy who fitted a VG20DET. Yep, a 2.0l turbo v6 to his 510. Feels like a lot of work for a 2.0l turbo, but he says it's a great cruiser.Piledriver wrote: ↑Fri Apr 11, 2025 8:51 am Good to have you back|, those 510s go for goo $$$ over here as well...

Been having issues connecting my new laptop to my bluetooth adapter. It's a windows 11 issue and here's the fix.

Okay, need some tunerstudio nerds... Got my car doing this weird hunt where it almost dies after firing up.
It's not closed-loop. It's just set on warmup then the idle motor turns off.

Are you controlling timing? Or is this a fuel only install?

Yes. Crank trigger and wasted spark with a Microsquirt.Chip Birks wrote: ↑Mon May 05, 2025 7:15 amAre you controlling timing? Or is this a fuel only install?

I couldn't see ignition timing on the data log. What is it doing in that zone?petew wrote: ↑Mon May 05, 2025 5:23 pmYes. Crank trigger and wasted spark with a Microsquirt.Chip Birks wrote: ↑Mon May 05, 2025 7:15 amAre you controlling timing? Or is this a fuel only install?

Re: Downunder turbo oval & Datsun 510 adventures
I use MAF so not sure if this translates, but I found that adding timing below idle helped to stabilize it.
If you are using PID closed loop idle, I'd guess that your closed loop sensitivity and or proportional gain is a little too high or derivative gain is a little low.
Also, if you are using stepper idle control I found that making a restriction in the line to the stepper valve helped on mine so each step gave a smaller change in idle air flow.
I did go too small at first and had to open the restriction up to find the sweet spot on mine.
YMMV, just my trial-and-error experience so take it for what you paid for it.

The older I get, the faster I was.
